1月28日 Thoughts on 'Fibromyalgia & Muscle Pain'I've just finished reading 'Fibromyalgia & Muscle Pain' by Leon Chaitow and tho I should have been asleep hours ago, I wanted to get some thoughts down while it's fresh in my mind.
I think my primary concerns when I see Prof Davies should be getting some pain management meds, my trigger points and the possible Candida. My TrPs are causing more pain than anything else atm and any help he can give would be so great. It's possible that the modified Myers cocktail he uses could help a bit with that, tho it's more likely to help with overall symptoms. Trigger point injections might be the way to go for relief as my progress with Sam on correcting the muscle imbalances that are contributing to so much of my TrP pain is vey slow - partly because of how bad everything is having not had correct treatment for more than a decade, partly because the illness means we have to take everything slow and partly because it's so expensive to see Sam that I don't book the twice as many appointments I could almost do with so she could work on immediate symptom releif one apt and then long term issue solving in the other! Sometimes (like at my last 2 apts) I'm in such a state that even the whole apt doesn't give us nearly enough time for Sam to work out every TrP so the long term stuff goes by the by until I'm feeling better. However, I am still not happy with the idea of Botox injections into TrPs...as Si said when I mentioned this, I get so many TrPs that they'd have to Botox almost all of me and that does not sound like a good idea! Local anaesthetic injections could be good tho. Or maybe I could get Botox injections into my worse TrPs.
I really want to incorporate more helpful exercise into my life. I really wish we could afford a gym membership where I could do yoga, tai chi and aquacise as well as steam rooms and spa baths. I would really like to start practising Qi Gong which is kind of like a healing version of Tai Chi...it sounds great for me, particularly as my joints are so lax (I could be diagnosed with Joint Hypermobility Syndrome if I bothered to push the issue and now I do not have the great strong muscles holding my joints in place like I used to, everything's popping out all over the place more and more) that some yoga poses and particularly the holding of poses puts alot of strain on my joints. I'm going to see if there are any local classes, but I think I'd be lucky to find Tai Chi! And then there's the issue of whether we could afford it anyway.
It is a problem with reading books like this - I find it dispiriting that there are so many more things I could be doing, from seeing a Chinese doctor for herbal medicines and acupuncture to going to aquacise classes, but that I can't do b/c of lack of funds.
Sam said on Friday that she thought Alexander Technique lessons could be good for me, but in a book on alternative therapies I found in Jane and David's study, it says that twice weekly apts are recommended and that a typical initial course of treatment lasts 3 months. So if I estimate an apt cost of £30 as it's unlikely to be any less, then treatment from an Alexander Technique practitioner would be at least £700 if not quite a bit more!
I am already taking some of the supplements Leon Chaitow recommends in the book, but I was interested to learn that the reasoning behind suggesting Gingko is that it can improve blood flow in the brain. Fibromites have been shown to have reduced blood flow in parts of the brain, so that really makes sense now! I think I'll look into trying some. I was taking Siberian Ginseng, but stopped because, although it did help, it was not of such use now that I am out of work that it warranted the cost. Maybe I should start taking it again as I want to get back to my studies and find it such hard going.
I am also going to purchase a thermometer for the bath so that I can take neutral baths - baths at or very near body temperature. They sound useful. I'm also going to try to remember to make time to both work on what trigger points I can and to regularly practise relaxation techniques. Having read how to in the book, I worked out some TrPs in the Trapezius muscles and then stretched them...it was a huge physical relief! 1月18日 I have music!I bought a mini SD card for my PDA today (from Tescos of all places!
I'm quite happy to pay extra for a few albums I really want if it's the only way to do it. This is helping so much! I think Si liked seeing that it helped me too! |
